Happy New Year, WABBLES! We’re ringing in 2024 together on this pleasant but chilly Monday, because even though 2023 is over, winter is definitely not. Even though we’ll stay rather cold throughout the day today, don’t be afraid to celebrate the holiday to its fullest, as any sort of inconvenient precipitation is looking unlikely through this evening. How long will the cold last? And when might rain (or snow!) make its return to the area? We’ll go through it all together in the first weather blog of the New Year!

Today’s Forecast

We’re staying cold today despite the region of high pressure warding off any serious chances of precipitation, with our highs only expected to reach the upper-30s by this afternoon. A light blustery wind out of the northwest will bring our feels-like temperatures a lot lower, however; it’ll seem more like upper-20s for most who spend some time outdoors today, so if you fall into that camp, please make sure to bundle up today! Lows will stretch into the low-20s after sundown this evening, so you’ll want to make sure those space heaters run for a while before you snuggle into bed tonight. Just like the new year, winter is officially here to stay!

New Year, New… Weather?

Not exactly; at least not for this first week. That high pressure from before will lock us into this chilly and cloudy dry pattern at least through Friday morning with no real opportunity for precipitation until this weekend. While we have noticed a disturbance in the atmosphere that may bring a new storm system to our front door beginning on Saturday, we’re still a week out; which leaves a lot of information muddled, such as storm intensity and possible precipitation type. But if you take a look at the tail end of the GIF below, you’ll get a good idea of what I’m referring to.

Yeah, that looks… interesting, for sure! (PivotalWeather)

Until Saturday, things look pretty boring around here, so we’re giving you an early heads-up on this one. But that doesn’t mean start panicking! We really don’t know anything about this storm; how strong it’ll be, if it’ll be cold enough here in the region to see snow, or if it even makes it to the WABBLES area without disintegrating. Just keep it in the back of your mind and remember to check in with us here on the blog and the Twitter page over the next several days, because we’ll be looking at it every day and keeping you aware of the changes in the forecast.

But until then, have a wonderful new year, folks! We’ve learned and grown so much with y’all this past year, and we cannot wait to see what 2024 brings to our community. Stay safe out there, WABBLES, and we’ll see you tomorrow!
