Good Monday morning, WABBLES! While this week’s weather remains much calmer, the dreaded Arctic air mass is finally here. WABBLES finds itself under another Arctic blast that keeps all this nasty fallen snow and ice here a bit longer.

So much ice! (Giphy)

Today’s Forecast

As of now, the entirety of WABBLES is under an Extreme Cold Warning from 6 PM tonight until Tuesday at 10 AM. High pressure has settled back in the region, keeping things calm but cold.

Monday morning temperatures start bitterly cold, with morning lows in the single digits! With all the snow and ice on the ground and incoming Arctic air, temperatures struggle to escape the single digits today. Breezy winds keep it even colder, with wind chills hovering around the 0° mark.

Evening temperatures fall deeper into the single digits and even creep into the sub-zero zone. If you thought it couldn’t get any colder than that, WABBLES, overnight temperatures drop into the negatives with windchills around -10°!

Cold, Cold, Go Away

With continuous upper-level winds out of the northwest keeping the cold air coming, Old Man Winter is sure here to stay. Another cold front sweeps into the region on Tuesday, bringing gusty winds and reinforcing the cold temperatures.

Tuesday’s high temperatures creep back into the mid-20s, with wind chills in the teens.

Not as bitter Tuesday afternoon, but definitely still cold. (Pivotal Weather)

However, as the sun sets, temperatures plummet back into the teens, with some areas seeing single digits once again.

Wednesday continues the broken-record pattern, with highs hanging around the low 20s, while overnight lows fall back into the teens and single digits (a pattern we will surely get used to this week).

Just to give an idea of this prolonged cold spell, the Climate Prediction Center continues to highlight the WABBLES region in a below-average temperature category on the 6-10 day outlook.

As long as this cold air is in place, the snow and ice on the ground aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Only travel if you must, and if you do, be cautious of slick roads, fallen limbs, and even powerlines. Please be sure to bundle up as well, as prolonged exposure to this extremely cold air can be dangerous in just minutes.
