Merry Christmas and happy Monday, WABBLES! Though we aren’t exactly expecting any frozen precipitation on this delightful winter holiday, the opportunity for rain in our area is a very different story. If you’ve got any outdoor plans included in your family’s Christmas traditions, make sure to bring along that rain jacket! But how long will this wet weather stick around? And will the rain usher in some colder temperatures later this week? We’ll get into it all together, in today’s festive weather blog!

Today’s Christmas Forecast

Moderate rainfall and some seriously gusty winds will ring in the holiday early this morning as a strong low pressure system and attached cold front push east into the WABBLES area over the course of the day. Though our region is much too warm for any of its attached precipitation to manifest as snow, winds will be strong enough on the backside for it to feel like a blizzard outside; just without the below-freezing temps! High temperatures will actually linger around the mid-60s this afternoon, with a dip into the mid-40s expected after sundown tonight as the bulk of the rain clears out.

If you’re planning to spend any of your Christmas Day outside this holiday, you’ll want to be prepared for wind gusts of up to 32 miles per hour as this low pressure system passes over the region. Raincoats, hats, and maybe even some galoshes will be necessary if you trek out to Fairview, as we’re expecting up to three-quarters of an inch of rain for most of the WABBLES area through tomorrow morning.

Rest of the Week?

Starting Tuesday morning we’ll be much calmer and a bit cooler, with lows closer to freezing and cloudy skies keeping us overcast until our next opportunity for precipitation arrives early Thursday morning. We’ll be keeping an eye on this next system, as it may be in the cards for some of WABBLES to see some flurries to close out 2023 with this one!
