After so much arctic air we’ve had to endure for the last three weeks, we sure could use some milder temperatures to join all that love in the air on Valentine’s weekend. Just our luck, it looks like that will be the case…but on the flip side, it looks like we’ll have plenty of rain to accompany those near-normal temps.
Setting the Stage: Friday and Friday Night
Ahead of our next bigger weathermaker, we’ll have to keep an eye on a subtler wave trying to move our way early on Friday, though its big influence should be gone by the time we wake up on our Friday morning.

It looks like we’ll likely have high pressure taking control of the forecast once again as we work into the day on Friday, which should help provide us with more sunshine as we work through the early hours of the day. Said sunshine, will combine with southerly winds on the back side of the high to pleasantly boost our temperatures into the middle 50s for highs.

However, while that southerly flow will be bringing us milder air, it will also be bringing us an increase in atmospheric moisture; thanks to a helping assist from strengthening low pressure to our south and west.

As that low pressure gets closer to the region, and we’re able to continue bringing moisture into the fold, we’ll see clouds on the increase as the sun sets on our Friday night. That cloud cover and added moisture will help stifle the drop in our lows, with overnight temperatures falling into the upper 30s.
My Soggy Valentine: Saturday and Sunday
If you and your sweetie have Valentine’s plans on our Saturday, you’ll definitely want to bring the coat…the rain coat.

The aforementioned low pressure will continue to develop to our south and west. As it starts to head our way, it will continue to bring warm air and moisture back into the picture, eventually leading to scattered showers breaking out as we get deeper and deeper into our Saturday.

The low pressure itself will stay off to our south, and with it, keep the really juicy air that could spawn strong thunderstorms down there with it. That said, we’re back above normal for daytime highs, in the middle 50s…even with the increasing rain chances.

Heading into Saturday night, we’ll continue to see moisture surge even along and north of the low center’s path. That will lead to potentially heavy pockets of rain moving through during the overnight hours Saturday and into early on Sunday morning. I can’t even rule out a rumble or two of thunder. Honestly, some good sleeping weather.

Overnight lows stay huddled in the upper 40s thanks to the moisture and showers we’ll have in place. Showers should continue overnight and as you get up and head out to early services on our Sunday, though we’ll start to lighten the rainfall as we get out there on Sunday morning, thanks to low pressure moving away.

As we move through the day on Sunday, we’ll continue to see rain chances drop, though clouds could hang tough for parts of the day, especially early. Despite that, high pressure from the south and west should be building back into the region, which should allow southerly flow to bring temperatures back up into the upper 50s and flirting with 60º yet again.

We should finally start to shove the last of the showers out of the region by Sunday night, with mostly cloudy skies slowly leading to partly cloudy skies by sunup on Monday. That slow clearing should help lows get back down into the lower 40s, or perhaps upper 30s in the outlying areas.
Total rainfall amounts around an inch for the weekend cannot be ruled out by the time all is set and done, though any areas that managed to get perhaps a training thunderstorm or two could see slightly higher amounts.

Quiet for Now: Into Next Week
After our Valentine’s weekend system decides to itself take a vacation up the eastern seaboard, it looks like we’ll be left with some more tranquil weather as we make the flip into the second half of February.

High pressure from the south will be in firm control, which should allow plenty of sunshine to break back out as we get our work week started. Hey, at least it’s better than cloudy gloom on a Monday.

Not only will the sunshine help with that case of the Mondays, but also warmer temperatures thanks to that sunshine and southern high pressure. It looks like we’ll make a run up into the upper 50s to around 60º again as we head into Monday afternoon, with partly cloudy skies and dry air bringing lows back into the lower 40s as we head into Monday night.
Toward midweek, we’ll likely see clouds start to increase as we head for Tuesday as even milder conditions continue ahead of another storm system taking shape across the plains and midwest that may bring showers and thunderstorms back to the forecast as we head into the second half of next week. It’s something we’ll continue to watch as we are entering a typically more active time of the year.
That’s it for me for now! You can always keep up with the latest on all of our social media platforms. Have a tremendous day and a great weekend!
