We have crossed over into Meteorological Winter and Mother Nature obliged with some spotty snow showers earlier this week. As our active pattern continues, we’ll reintroduce more chances for precipitation, which may not be completely liquid in nature, as we head into the weekend.
Spotty Showers: Friday and Friday Night
Our flow remains out of the northwest as the weekend approaches, which will continue to see smaller system after smaller system try to scoot through, just like the one that pushed through last night into this morning.

Luckily for folks how may not be big snow lovers, what fell late last night and into this morning shouldn’t be sticking around long as we should get back above freezing for our Friday.

We should be able to get temperatures up into the lower 40s as that warmer air filters in during the afternoon hours. Well, not warm, by any means, but above freezing.

However, we only stay above freezing for as long as the sun stays above the horizon. We’ll dry out but cool down quickly, despite clouds hanging around overnight. Lows still settle back into the middle to upper 20s as we kickstart the weekend.
Tale of Two Halves: Saturday and Sunday
Convenient timing for drier weather getting in here on Saturday. A bit of a sandwich day to start the weekend as we sit in between two weathermakers.

We should at least see some sunshine for Saturday, which should help warm us up into the middle 40s. “Warm,” perhaps in quotation marks, but hey, above freezing!

However, clouds will begin to increase from the west later in the day as another system starts to work toward WABBLES. Good news there is that the weather should look nice, even if it feels a little chilly, for our folks headed up to Lexington to cheer on the South Warren Spartans in the KHSAA 6A state finals against Trinity. Surely the most newsworthy thing involving current or former Trinity Shamrocks in the state this week.

However, those clouds will portend a return to precipitation as soon as late Saturday night, but more likely as we head into the day on Sunday. Even with clouds, we’re back into the upper 20s for our Saturday night.
Our next system will continue to take shape out to our west during the day on Sunday, continuing to bring clouds back. Even so, I think we’ve got enough drier air and somewhat milder air to make a run at the middle 40s during the afternoon. All in all, not too bad of a couple of days if you need to get the Christmas decorations up.

However, after the sun sets on Sunday night, we’ll need to watch for another opportunity for showers that could briefly turn wintry, especially after dark.

Questions a-plenty about the amount of moisture we’ll have available as we head into Sunday night, but this system looks to have an opportunity for some liquid rain that could turn to some snow during the overnight hours. At this point, this still doesn’t look like much of an issue on the roads, but we’ll have to keep a close eye on it, especially heading into Sunday night. At least it’s festive?

We’ll settle back into the upper 20s Sunday night and into early Monday.
Staying Active: Into Next Week
One system says “see ya” as we simultaneously say “see ya” to the weekend. However, we’ll keep the clipper pipeline active as we head into next week.

At this point, it looks like we’ll start the work week dry on Monday, with at least some filtered sunshine during the day. However, we’ll shave a few degrees off that high thanks to cooler air pushing in. We’ll make it into the upper 30s to near 40º or so.
Breeziness returns by Tuesday as another system starts to get organized to our west. That will combine with high pressure passing to our south and east to bring milder air back to the region.

We’re dry but breezy as highs get back into the middle and upper 40s. However, it looks like we’ll start increasing the clouds and rain to the second half of the week. Showers should return by Wednesday and Thursday with highs getting back into the lower 50s…normal for this time of year!
That’s it for me for now! You can always keep up with the latest on all of our social media platforms. Have a tremendous day and a great weekend!
