Good Monday morning, WABBLES! We’re starting the meteorological winter strong with an incoming wintry system this evening. Much like your Thanksgiving leftovers, this system brings a little bit of everything to the table: if you know WABBLES, we are the ideal location for Mother Nature to be indecisive about rain or snow. Let’s go ahead and dive into the details of this system!

Breaking down the storm
The majority of our Monday will be relatively uneventful. The morning begins chilly with temperatures in the lower 20s, while highs hang around the upper 30s to lower 40s. Skies remain partly cloudy with some light winds from the east.

Heading into the evening, things start to get a little interesting as the first spotty rain showers begin to push in from the southwest. Currently, only Butler County is under a Winter Weather Advisory from 9 PM tonight to 8 AM Tuesday. With southwesterly winds aloft keeping the air moist and above freezing, these showers will remain as rain, with some possible mixed precipitation in our northern counties.
However, around midnight, some colder air from the northwest quickly drops our temperatures. These spotty showers will quickly transition into a more organized band of mixed precipitation as it continues to move eastward.

Depending on how fast temperatures fall and if they remain sub-freezing, this could affect the timing and type of frozen precipitation. However, WABBLES will start to see this sleet and icy mix turn into all snow by early Tuesday morning. While this is a quick-moving storm, parts of WABBLES could still see accumulation anywhere between a trace to 1″ of snow/sleet, with isolated areas receiving more.
By daybreak on Tuesday, this mess of a system will already be out of the region. However, the early Tuesday morning commute will need to be handled with care, as roads will likely contain slick spots from this freshly fallen snow.
The rest of Tuesday remains cold; skies will be mostly cloudy, and high temperatures are in the upper 20s to lower 30s.

Quiet and Cool Mid-Week
By Wednesday, the sunshine returns, but temperatures remain chilly. Morning lows start out in the lower 20s while afternoon highs only climb to the low 40s. High pressure moves back into the region, keeping our weather calm for the time being.

Cloud cover increases Wednesday night into Thursday, making for another chilly and gloomy day. Temperatures will hang around the mid-30s during the day, before dropping into the lower 30s overnight.
So grab those umbrellas and snow gear, because we’re in for a rollercoaster ride of wintry weather. As I mentioned before, WABBLES sits right along the edge of winter’s indecisive zone, so these transitions from rain, sleet, and snow could vary.
