As we start the weekend, WABBLES has enjoyed a mostly fall-like September so far, but astronomical summer continues for another couple of weeks yet and Mother Nature is not going to let you forget it.
Toasty Football: Friday and Friday Night
We’ve spent the week steadily getting warmer. We started the week in the lower 80s, but have quickly made a return to the 90s.
We’re back there today as the weather pattern remains rather stagnant across the region.
Plentiful sunshine will continue as we head through the afternoon and into the evening hours. That, combined with the ridge of high pressure that continues to build into the region, will have highs surging back into the lower 90s yet again.
The difference between this and a typical summer afternoon will be the general lack of moisture in the air. So while we’ll see temperatures in the 90s, dew points look to remain in the 50s. That means heat index values will remain consistent with the air temperature, if not a degree or two lower!
By Friday night football time, while it will be warm to start, things look to nicely moderate as we head through the games. Lows overnight should ultimately drop back into the upper 50s to near 60º or so.
Getting Sizzly: Saturday and Sunday
A stagnant weather pattern continues as we make our way into the weekend.
The ridge that has built in from the central plains states will continue to leave us hot and dry as we head into our Saturday afternoon. That means yet more sunshine to help boost those temperatures up into the lower 90s yet again.
Yet again, we’ll be dealing with dew points that are not off the charts, so while it will be warm, it will not be unbearably muggy.
We continue to see that kind of humidity where the heat index remains steady or perhaps even lower than the air temperature.
Drier air continues through the overnight, which should allow temperatures to drop into the lower 60s during the overnight hours, perhaps slightly warmer if we see a little bit more of that nighttime humidity increase. More of the same continues as we head into the day on Sunday.
Sunshine continues as we finish up the weekend, though we are keeping an eye on a quite weak disturbance that will try to sneak into the region.
However, I’m not impressed with the amount of moisture return that we’ll see, which should hold the results down to just a few clouds and perhaps a sprinkle or two. Not much in the way of relief for our growing drought issue.
We’ll keep things warm and perhaps a touch muggy into the afternoon as highs get up well into the 90s, perhaps flirting with the middle 90s. Humidity will be there, but it doesn’t look like a July setup out there by any means. Heading into the overnight, clear skies will allow lows to fall back into the lower to middle 60s as we head past dark.
Toasty into Next Week
Well, things look to stay rather hot and stagnant as we flip the desk calendars from the weekend into the new work week.
Toastiness continues as Monday arrives, with plenty of sunshine really helping us boost those daytime highs up into the 90s, perhaps even middle 90s by the afternoon. Yes…middle 90s!
Our drought status is not helping us when it comes to the heat since the dry ground will be radiating that heat back to us as we head through the afternoon hours. Into the overnight hours, clear skies and the relatively dry air will continue to bring us cooler air overnight with lows back into the lower to middle 60s.
Yet more of the same toward Tuesday and Wednesday as the central plains ridge continues to dominate the forecast. We’ll keep temperatures on into the 90s with plenty of sunshine to boot.
There is some hint in the modeling that we may be able to bring a few showers back in here as we head toward the middle and end of the week, but that is far from a guarantee at this point. I would continue to plan for warmer than normal conditions to hang with us right on through the new work week.
