After a nice mid-week break from June storminess around WABBLES, we appear to be returning to an active pattern as we head into the weekend.

Muggy and Stormy: Friday and Friday Night

A typical summertime pattern looks to settle back in as we finish out the work week. A weakening disturbance from the plains should start to push in here as it pulls a nice slug of moisture in off the Gulf. Not only will this increase the humidity.

But it will also interact with the heat that we’ve been building to produce more scattered thunderstorms around the region.

Here come the storms. (Pivotal Weather)

Highs in the middle and upper 80s, combined with dew points near 70º should produce scattered thunderstorms that will bring not only copious amounts of rainfall, but also the potential for a strong wind gust or two.

Widespread organized severe weather doesn’t appear overly likely, owing to the rather weak upper level winds in place, but we’ll have to watch for any of those collapsing thunderstorms that could send some strong winds down to the ground. As we lose the daytime heating, we should start to see storms diminish somewhat, though it will remain humid with lows in the lower 70s.

More of the Same: Saturday and Sunday

The pattern continues in a rather persistence fashion as we head into the weekend timeframe. Our weakening upper wave should continue to provide just enough of a lifting mechanism to provide us with opportunities for scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms as things remain warm and humid.

For Saturday, we should open the day on a partly sunny note. That should allow highs to creep quickly back up into the upper 80s yet again. As we see the interaction between temperatures flirting with 90º and dew points flirting with 70º, we should see an increase in showers and storms in the afternoon yet again.

Look familiar? (Pivotal Weather)

Once again, organized severe weather is unexpected. However, in this environment where there is no “exhaust pipe” for storms, they typically collapse in on one another, which can lead to brief instances of damaging winds called “wet microbursts.” We’ll have to keep an eye not only on that, but for any heavy rain these storms produce while sitting over the same locations. Storms should diminish overnight as lows settle back into the lower 70s.

More of the same on Sunday.

Highs will once again surge into the middle and upper 80s, along with dew points in the 70s. We’ll have to watch any leftover boundaries from Saturday that could provide the trigger for renewed thunderstorm development in the afternoon.

This is becoming a theme. (Pivotal Weather)

Yet again, we’ll be watching for scattered showers and storms that could briefly turn strong as they start to collapse on themselves. Outside of that, we’re looking at another hot and humid summer afternoon.

Storms look to fade with the loss of the daytime heating, but we’ll only fall back into the lower 70s with mostly cloudy skies overnight.

Scattered Storminess: Into Next Week

We’ve been stuck in a mostly active summertime pattern and it looks to stay that way as we head into the new work week.

Our weakening upper wave that kept showers and storms around through much of the weekend continues to fall apart and push on out of the region. However, we’ll have to keep an eye on a developing pattern that could equal continued bouts of storminess.

Models have been hinting that we’ll likely see some sort of ridging pattern develop across the central states, which will keep things hot and dry out there. For us, however, it means Mother Nature is laying down train tracks.

We’ll have to watch and see if this “ring of fire” pattern indeed sets up, because it could lead to renewed chances for more organized bouts of storms, some of which could be strong to severe. However, there is still plenty of time to keep an eye on the data. As it seems now, we’ll continue to watch daytime highs push into the middle and upper 80s.

That’s it for me for now! You can always keep up with the latest on all of our social media platforms. Have a tremendous day and a great weekend!
