Finally, after so many dry days around WABBLES, we’re finally getting in on some much-needed relief from escalating drought conditions as we head into the weekend. And you can thank little ol’ Francine for that.
Dodging Showers: Friday and Friday Night
We’re going to have to keep a lookout for those showers as we head into the day on Friday. The remnants of what was once Hurricane Francine will be making their way up into the middle Mississippi Valley as we head through the day.
On the one hand, the clouds from the system will keep us slightly cooler through the day. However, they will also be accompanying much more moist air which will be pushing into the area ahead of the system. Highs will peak in the upper 70s and lower 80s as we watch the showers increase and push into the region.
Sure, the showers might not be great if you’re headed out to high school football…but (puts dad hat on) we sure needed this rain.
I can’t completely rule out some of Mother Nature’s funny business with a tropical system nearby, but the best opportunity for severe weather should stay mostly to our south. But you know how this year has been.
Scattered showers look to continue during the overnight hours as we watch the remnant low of Francine continue to churn across the region.
Keep the Umbrellas Handy: Saturday and Sunday
Unfortunately, the remnant low of Francine looks to get cut off from the main atmospheric flow, the result being that the remnant low will get stuck and will continue to bring us more shower and storm potential as we work through the weekend.
Scattered showers continue to scoot through the region as we head through the day on Saturday. Clouds and the showers will keep us rather socked in and cooler than normal as we work through the day. Highs remain near 80º or so, though it will be a rather humid 80º thanks to all the moisture around.
If you’re making the 100 or so mile drive to the Nashville Suburb What Shall Not Be Named for a certain rivalry football game against a certain Blue School What Shall Not Be Named, be prepared for a soggy and potentially windy affair as we work through the afternoon hours.
Some of those showers will continue to work through the region into the overnight hours. Lows only make it down into the middle 60s or so.
Yet more of the same into the day on Sunday as the remnant low continues to churn through the region.
More rain showers look likely, which should at least try to put a dent in our ongoing drought situation. Perhaps an inch or two of rain will be possible through this whole event, though heavier totals will be expected when we run into some thunderstorms or convective bands. Keeping it on the lower 80s for the afternoon hours with perhaps a peek of sunshine later in the day. Mid 60s are all we look to manage in the overnight hours as the moisture stays put.
Toward Next Week: What’s Left of Francine
As we talked about, Francine is going to take its sweet time moving out of the region thanks to the weak steering currents we have above our heads. As we head into the work week, we’ll continue to see Francine’s remnants become more and more diffuse as the system’s core continues to weaken.
Even so, we’ll watch for showers to continue as we head into the day on Monday as highs stay on the cooler side…for mid-September that is. Muggy highs continue near 80º or so during the afternoon, with lows overnight in the lower 60s.
We’ll keep the pattern consistent as we head through next week.
Highs will stay in the lower to middle 80s as we continue to watch shower chances wane as we head deeper and deeper through the week.
That’s it for me for now! You can always keep up with the latest on all of our social media platforms. Have a tremendous day and a great weekend!
