Good Monday morning, WABBLES folks! We’re in for a pretty significant freeze this week as a shot of arctic air enters the SOKY region for the first time this season. After a seriously messy and rainy weekend, sunshine will be returning to the area soon; but not enough to bring back that early-fall warmth, because our taste of winter will last all the way through late week and into early November. How long should we keep the thick jackets handy? And when will this nasty drizzle taper off? We’ll cover it together in today’s weather blog!

Today’s Forecast

As I’m sure most of you have noticed, we’ve been pretty damp and chilly throughout this weekend, and unfortunately, that will remain true throughout the day today. While our expected deep freeze won’t fully push into the immediate WABBLES area until later this evening, we’re only expecting high temperatures in the mid-40s this morning as temperatures plummet over the course of the day.

We’ll dip below freezing overnight for lows in the high 20s to start off our day on Tuesday, which has prompted the National Weather Service in Louisville to issue a Freeze Warning for all WABBLES counties going into tomorrow morning. If you have sensitive outdoor plants, today is the day to bring them in or get them covered, and take care of those outdoor pipes so that you don’t have issues with water freezing overnight!

How Long Will This Freeze Last?

Let’s take a look together! Though the Freeze Warning will remain in effect through tomorrow morning at 9 AM, that’s definitely not the last time we’ll see below-freezing temperatures this week. In fact, we’re expecting to see highs of mid-40s and lows in mid-20s through Thursday night, with a smaller warm-up on Friday that might reintroduce some low-60s as highs to our area. The good news is that with this cold air comes a large area of high pressure behind the front, which will keep us dry and completely clear all the way into this upcoming weekend. If you can brave the sudden winter chill, you may enjoy spending some time outside to start off your November strong!
