Good Monday morning, WABBLES! Foggy skies and fluctuating temperatures are on the menu as we begin to wind down the month of October here across the region. Autumn is in full swing, and we’ll continue to see its effects as chilly evenings combine with comfortably warm afternoons to bring us some beautiful forecasts through the end of this week. With no major meteorological disturbances lined up, most if not all of WABBLES will be staying dry once again this week… but when are we seeing more rain? Or do we just stay foggy and fall-like forever? We’re going through it all together in today’s weather blog!
Today’s Forecast
Well, as you may already know… some of us could see some patchy, foggy areas this morning as we wake up and head off to our respective locations this beautiful Monday! As curious as it is, fog this time of year is not a major surprise; as we’ve solidly moved into mid-fall, our temperatures across the region have begun to fluctuate wildly between the days and nights.
Depending on how cool conditions become in the overnight, as the air begins to warm around sunrise, the pockets of air that have reached 100% relative humidity and formed fog begin to warm up and typically fully evaporate by mid-morning. We’ll be digging into the mid-40s several nights this week for our low temperatures, so as we get cooler, look out for more of that low-lying fog in the early morning hours before it has a chance to cook off!
As far as today goes, however, once our morning fog is out of the way, WABBLES is lined up for a beautiful day of cloudless skies and bright, warm sun. Some perfect fall festival conditions ahead of the big Hallowed holiday, if you’re catching our drift; if you haven’t already, get out there and enjoy it!
Foggy Future?
In the short term, yes! The current pattern we’re in just so happens to provide an excellent radiational cooling environment, so it’s likely we’ll continue to see morning fog over the next several days across the region. But as far as anything more exciting goes… maybe not for a while! The WABBLES area continues to be dominated by some surface high pressure, which acts as a barrier to keep most casual weather systems at bay. In addition, in the upper-levels, the jet stream that typically serves as a conveyor belt to keep some rain in our forecast once every few days has wandered a bit too far north and left us hanging out to dry… literally!
As a result, the Climate Prediction Center is once again expecting that we’ll stay much drier than usual across the region over the next week or so. We’re hoping for a subtle change to the ridging and troughing pattern of the mid- and upper-levels before the end of the month, but until that happens, we’re likely to continue our dry spell into November!
And… that’s about all we’ve got for you today, WABBLES! Enjoy these foggy starts to beautiful days, because there’s no telling how many more we’ll have in the forecast before things switch up later this season. As long as you’re bundling up warm at night and driving safely in the mornings, we’re happy to be here to provide your fall-time forecasts, even if they’re a bit more boring than usual.
Check back here later this week to get another good look at our next few days of weather, but if you’re hankering for more forecast fun between now and then, check out our Twitter page!
