Good Monday morning and Happy MLK Day, WABBLES community! As last night’s large snow system exits the region, bitter cold surges in to take its place over the next several days. The entire WABBLES region remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until tomorrow morning, with Allen and Barren counties under a Winter Storm Warning, as most in the community are waking up to at least an inch or more of snow on the ground this holiday. But the serious chill behind the storm may cause some issues for students returning to the classroom this week; let’s go over it all together in today’s weather blog!
Today’s Forecast
Of course, the story today remains the frigid chill left in the wake of our overnight snow-maker. High temperatures today are only expected to make it to the mid-teens, with wind chills making it feel a bit more like single digits. After sundown, expect our lows to linger around 7 degrees, with the feels-like temps dipping into the negatives.
Some additional snow showers are possible over the course of the day with some potential additional accumulation, but you’re really not going to want to be outside today unless you absolutely have to, WABBLES! Make a serious effort to bundle up any and all children who are gunning for some time in the snow and make sure to monitor their time outdoors, as frostbite and hypothermia are incredibly common with temperatures this low.
When do we Lose the Bitter Cold?
The first sign of a return to more average January weather arrives Wednesday into Thursday, as temperatures slowly warm to around freezing during the daytime. But snow showers return Thursday evening, with another dip back into cooler air expected. We have entered into a very active wintertime pattern this month, and it looks likely that this pattern will continue to bring waves of colder air and more precipitation to WABBLES through at least the end of January.
Right now, WABBLErs should be most concerned with staying warm in this seriously bitter cold. Warmer temperatures will return later in the week, but these wind chills aren’t playing around! If you must travel over the next two days, please be careful on the roads, as any snow that may melt will absolutely refreeze into ice until likely Wednesday afternoon. Stay warm, stay informed, and stay awesome, WABBLES! Follow along on our Twitter page for the most recent weather updates for the area, and check in here on Wednesday for another forecast blog laying out our expectations for the rest of the week. See you then!
