Good Monday morning, WABBLES! After an active weekend, much quieter conditions are on the menu to kick off our work week. Aside from a lingering Flood Warning for our Barren River region through this afternoon, much of the excitement of the severe weather we had anticipated has passed; as a result, we’re dealing with clear skies and chillier temps as we enter this short-lived calm period. We’re going through it all together here in today’s weather blog!

Today’s Forecast

We’re kicking off the day with temperatures in the low-to-mid 30s across WABBLES as a result of the potent cold front that pushed through our area this weekend. It’s definitely a big change from the warm 70s and 80s we were feeling at the end of last week, but good news! We’ll warm right back up into those 70s beginning tomorrow, as this week’s quieter conditions will help kickstart that warm air advection out of the south. We’ll still be a little chillier than average today, however, so expect to see temperatures top out around the mid-50s if you’re planning on being out and about this Monday.

Quiet Start… Messy End?

You know us too well, WABBLES! While we do get a nice, calm start to the week in the wake of all the chaos of the weekend, we’re pretty well entrenched in this active upper air pattern, which means any quieter breaks we do see don’t last forever. The same is true for the break we’re getting now: we’re eyeing yet another weather-making system that’ll move through WABBLES overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning, bringing some rumbles of thunder and knocking down temperatures once again close to freezing in the nighttime hours.

There it is. The end to our quiet period. (COD)

Yep, you guessed it right. We’re looking at another potent cold front with some rain and embedded thunderstorms possible, and depending on how strong that cold air is behind it, some of us across the region could see a few wet snowflakes mix in with the rainfall before this system exits off to our east. Nothing that would accumulate, of course, because our pavement temperatures are much too high for that, but enough to remind folks that winter isn’t over until Mother Nature says it’s over!

Big ol’ marginal risk in place for Wednesday night into Thursday morning, since it’s possible we could see a few rumbles of thunder overnight! (SPC)

At the end of the day, the good news is that we aren’t excessively worried about any of the upcoming weather systems we see coming down the pipeline for our beloved WABBLES region. We’re just going to savor these quiet days and prepare accordingly for the wetter ones, and that’s pretty much all you can do as we get into spring storm season proper!

If you don’t already, make sure to give us a follow over on the Twitter page so that you can keep up with us and our frequent weather updates outside of our blog posts. WABBLES is a community of awesome folks just like you, and we love interacting and engaging with y’all over there, rain or shine! We’ll be back later this week with another update on the system we’re watching for Thursday, but until then, stay safe out there folks, and take care!
