Good Monday morning, WABBLES family! We’ve got some great news: warm temperatures and calm conditions are on the menu for our second week of March, after last week’s seriously gusty winds and chillier weather. Bright blue skies and climbing high temperatures will have it feeling closer to early summer for many, and while that’s a great thing for those of us who are sick and tired of the winter weather rollercoaster, I know you WABBLERS know exactly what unseasonable warmth means in early spring: severe weather isn’t too far off. We’re going into all the details together in today’s weather blog!

Today’s Forecast

The week of sunshine and dry conditions begins today, with a beautiful Monday region-wide! High temperatures will top out in the relaxed upper-60s for most everyone in WABBLES this afternoon, as cloudless skies and light winds will allow some of that solar radiation to really get things warmed up here in Southern Kentucky. We’ll dip down into the low-40s overnight as well, keeping things comfortably out of the range of freezing temperatures after so long skirting the line. Dominating high pressure and calm westerly flow in the upper-levels for the next several days means that this pattern will repeat going into the midweek, except we’ll be even warmer!

So… We Just Keep Getting Warmer?

Pretty much! In fact, the WABBLES region will see nothing but those same blue skies and bright sunshine through late Wednesday night, when it’ll become possible for a few sneaky rain showers to drift into the region from the south. Suppose this casual disturbance is able to make it close enough to WABBLES for some to see light rainfall; even if so, it won’t have much of an effect on our temperatures, if at all. Friday’s highs are currently expected to tip into the low-80s, really giving us a good taste of that early summer-like warmth!

Now, as I alluded earlier, this calm period will not last forever. Those of you who have spent some time getting familiar with WABBLES weather know all too well that when we’re unseasonably warm, severe weather often will come a-knocking, and the same is true right now. It’s just a bit too far out for us to get it in full focus, but us here at wxornotBG want to make sure you’re aware that we are watching for the possibility of some strong to severe storms moving through the area overnight Friday night into early Saturday morning.

We rarely get upper-air systems that look like this five or more days out from a severe weather event. (COD)

We’ve been keeping an eye on the models over the last several days, and they’ve started to come into agreement that a large and seriously powerful weather system will go on a tear across both the Southern Plains and even down into the Deep South to ring in the weekend. There are still several variables that need to be ironed out before we can call this a bona-fide severe weather outbreak, but as we get closer to Friday, things will only become more clear.

The Storm Prediction Center has already issued outlooks for late Friday into early Saturday as a result, and we’ll continue to update you both here on the blog and on our Twitter page through the rest of the week to make sure you’re prepared for what’s to come!

That’s about all we’ve got for you today, folks. Make sure you’re getting out there and enjoying all the beautiful warm weather we’ll see this week before things get hairy. Sunshine is good for the soul, and after the chaotic last few weeks of weather we’ve had, no one will blame you for soaking it all in! We’ll be back soon with a new forecast blog to keep you in the loop about everything coming up for our WABBLES community. But until then, take care, be safe, and stay weather aware!
