Good Monday morning and Merry Christmas, WABBLES! We’re in for an active several days of weather ahead as the holiday approaches, with mild temperatures and unstable upper-level flow ensuring that scattered to widespread rain remains on the menu through the end of the week. We’re a little too mild for snow this year, unfortunately, but our local warming trend will help keep things comfortable as we approach New Year’s and the month of January. We’ll dive into it all together in today’s weather blog!
Today’s Forecast
Despite the multiple opportunities we’ll have to see rain over the next several days, WABBLES stays remarkably dry through this evening, with high temperatures lingering around the upper 40s and low 50s for most. Bright sunshine will warm us up pretty quickly from overnight temperatures near and below freezing, and a comfortable breeze out of the south will advect some moisture northward into the region, preparing us for what’s coming later this week. Today’s the last clear and beautiful day before Christmas, y’all- if there’s any last-minute shopping or holiday errand you need to pull off before the big day, this may be your last chance!
What About Our Christmas Forecast?
Not so fast, buddy! We’ve got just a little more to cover before we get into Christmas Day. In fact, Christmas Eve will kick off the fun for us starting just after midnight on Tuesday morning, as a band of scattered showers drifts into WABBLES from the southwest. Most of these showers will dissipate, keeping most of us largely dry during the daytime, but sprinkles will still be possible as we go into the evening hours, preparing WABBLES for another round of more widespread rain on the morning of the 25th.
A second wave of precipitation will push into WABBLES from the southwest early Christmas morning, allowing any location that missed out on Tuesday’s scattered showers to see a bit more widespread rainfall on the holiday itself.
Though I’m sure most’s idea of a sweet home Kentucky Christmas doesn’t involve this much rainfall, the good thing is that we aren’t concerned with any severe weather as a factor in these messier weather systems. So long as you stay inside to celebrate the holiday, you’ll be just fine and stay dry as well!
The rain chances will continue into the weekend as we draw closer to the New Year, our shift into a more active pattern is pretty noticeable, so enjoy your Monday as the last real sunny and dry day of the holiday season. In fact, through the end of the month, we could be looking at anywhere from an inch to an inch and a half of additional rainfall across WABBLES!
That’s about all we’ve got for you today, WABBLES! Sorry again for the less-than-perfect forecast; trust us, if we controlled the weather, we’d be making sure all you lovely folks get a pleasant white Christmas to close out a busy year. Alas, we are simply just the messengers, so make sure you’re keeping up with us across the board so that you’re informed when the latest updates to the forecast come in! Give us a follow over on Twitter if you don’t already, and make sure to stay in touch with the blog, as we’ll have several more posts go out this week to cover the transition into 2025.
