Good Monday morning, WABBLES! We’re entering into the final stretch of November, and with Thanksgiving on the horizon, it’s time to take a look at this week’s forecast. Scattered showers and fluctuating temperatures will be the story to close out the month, but what about the holiday itself? Will Thanksgiving be a washout, or will we have just enough breaks in the rain for a more relaxing family holiday? We’ll go through all of it together in today’s weather blog!
Today’s Forecast
We’re starting off the week with some scattered showers that will make their way through the region tonight into early tomorrow morning as a result of a passing cold front. Our upper-level atmosphere has been primed for large-scale frontal systems over the last several weeks, so gone are the dog days of summer where WABBLES saw weeks-long stretches without precipitation. The rainfall will increase in coverage later this afternoon, and behind it follows much colder air that’ll push us down into the mid-30s for a low overnight. Keep the umbrella handy today, and the warm jacket handy tomorrow!
Thanksgiving Day Forecast
Unfortunately, though we’ll have a break between wet weather systems Tuesday and early Wednesday, it looks like we’ll be dealing with more annoying precipitation on Thanksgiving Day. Currently, another lingering surface boundary looks like it’ll kick up some moisture late on Wednesday evening, and as it drifts south overnight, will drag more rain chances into the area for the holiday. As long as your Turkey Day feast is being prepared indoors, you should be fine! But for those who are traveling for Thanksgiving dinner, make sure to be safe in the wet weather as you do.
Though we aren’t expecting any severe weather or strong storms with either of these systems, it’s likely some of this rain will linger, and heavier downpours could cause some road ponding issues in low-lying areas. The most noticeable after-effect of these frontal passages, however, is just how cold it’ll get afterward! The Climate Prediction Center has placed WABBLES in an area that’s expecting temperatures extremely below normal over the next six to ten days… so be prepared to button up as December roars in like a lion!
Though it isn’t exactly the forecast that many hoped for, we here at WXornotBG hope that each and every one of you has a wonderful Thanksgiving and can make the most of the holiday, even with the coming rain! We’re always thankful for your support, because we couldn’t do what we do without it, no question.
