Good Monday morning, WABBLES! After a few days of being stuck under Francine’s tropical moisture, we’ve got a downright perfect week in the forecast for everyone to enjoy. Blue skies and sunshine will be available in abundance over the next several days, and you’ll want to enjoy them, as we don’t have very many left in our summer season! But how long will this calm stint last, and what does that mean for our local climate? We’ll break it all down together in today’s weather blog!

We’re setting that switch to perfect summertime weather, and it isn’t going away anytime soon! (Tenor)

Today’s Forecast

Today’s forecast will kick off a week chock full of calm conditions, as highs in the mid-to-upper 80s will have an iron grip on our week ahead in combination with those blue skies. We’ll end up topping out around 88 degrees this afternoon, with little-to-no cloud cover expected to break up some of that bright sunshine. If you’re planning to get some outdoor work done today, you’ll want to break out that sunscreen to make sure you don’t get toasted, as our UV index will hover around a 7 for most of the week!

A Perfect Week… but What About the Drought?

Good question! This time of year, our beloved WABBLES is used to getting a little dried out after several weeks of no hearty rainfall. So while it isn’t necessarily a huge surprise, a good chunk of WABBLES is currently in a moderate to severe drought stage. The only unfortunate thing about another calm week of dry weather is that this drought will continue to persist through next weekend without any significant rainfall chances in the forecast, but as we get closer to climatological fall, we’ll likely see some improvement in the drought in the coming weeks!

While most of East-Central KY has seen some good rainfall recently, a lot of us here local to WABBLES are a bit drier. (Drought Monitor)

The good news is that the Climate Prediction Center doesn’t think we’ll stay in any abnormally long stretch of dry weather anytime soon; their six-to-ten-day precipitation forecast has us right in the average rainfall category, and while average rainfall might be a little less than some would expect, it doesn’t rule out any incoming weather systems that could grant us some relief in the next two weeks.

Other than that, we don’t have much else to share with you all today, folks! Expect a near-perfect several days ahead, with warm summer temperatures and bright sunshine to carry you through the work week. We’ll have another blog to keep you updated on the latest later this week, so make sure you check back in here to get all the updated info.
