WABBLES, welcome back to today’s edition of what is going on with Kentucky’s weather. Many of you see that word winter and are not surprised. Well as the first day of spring is right around the corner, mother nature has come to give us one more taste of what we won’t miss. Of course, when you mix a sudden cool down and springtime you get some thunderstorms. Let’s get down to what is going on as we close out winter.

WedneSDAY Weather
Today will start to feel a little cooler than yesterday with a high in the upper 60’s, but those winds will blow you off your feet. A wind advisory is currently in place for WABBLES until 10 pm tonight. This what happens when you get a tightening gradient that brings 15-20 mph winds with some gust around 30-35 mph possible.
Today’s rain event will begin with some possible scattered showers in the early afternoon but around 4:00 pm is when we start to see heavier storms start to pop up. Our severe threat is currently 1/5 with our biggest threat being damaging wind gust especially associated with individual thunderstorms. All threats are on the table, however unlikely, and heavy rainfall may be associated with individual cells.
This will drag the cold front in heading into Thursday. Our temperatures will drop into the upper 40’s towards midnight as the storms pass through WABBLES. Just what we all wanted as we ring in spring.

A bit Chilly Isn’t?
When you go out to your car tomorrow morning, you’ll feel that chill in the air as the temperature have dropped into the upper 40’s. These temperatures are to climb into the mid 40’s, as a rain shower is possible especially in the morning. Winds will persist between 10-15 mph and gust between 20-25 mph.

Friday, we see the sunshine to start spring with temperatures in the mid 50’s. What are we looking forward to as we get into spring? Chilly, that’s the right word to use. The Climate Prediction Center puts us in a colder than average trend over the next week and even over the next two weeks. Keep those jackets handy because springs not here quite yet.

Spring welcomes us with some thunderstorms and some chilly temperatures. Stay safe today, while these storms may not raise as many flags as last week, they can still cause some impacts.
