After a work week in the deep freeze, we’re finally enjoying some nice moderation around WABBLES. Even so, the general pattern continues unabated, as another system looks to bring a chance of rain back to the region.

Moving on up: Friday and Friday Night
The lobe of the Polar Vortex that brought us frankly unfair temperatures early in the week continues to scoot to the east and ease on out of the region as we work through the end of the week.

This means we’ll see some modest return flow as we head into the afternoon. The air is still dry, so while we may see a few clouds, that should be the extent of our weather worries through Friday. Highs will remain cold, but will feel downright beach-like after earlier this week. Readings look to peak in the upper 30s to right around 40º.

Clear skies will bring us back into the freezer overnight, though only the one in your kitchen, not the industrial one we’ve seen this week.

It’d better not be anything that starts with “s.” (Giphy)

Lows will settle back into the middle 20s, or so.

Break out the shorts: Saturday and Sunday
If you are planning on enjoying temperatures near 40º or so Friday, you’re gonna be a big fan of the weekend.

I’ll take what we can get, okay? (Pivotal Weather)

Another system starts to develop out to the west and move our way as we head through the early parts of Saturday. That will help enhance our southerly flow during the day on Saturday. That will help drive highs up to near 50º! Man, that’s like beach weather!

At the same time, that southerly flow will enhance moisture into the region as well. That will bear us increasing high clouds streaming in through the day as the front inches closer to the region, I can’t completely rule out a rain shower, but most of us stay dry.

Juuuuuust a bit outside. #RIPUeck (Pivotal Weather)

Spotty clouds will likely keep us from getting too far into the freezer overnight, but we’ll be cold enough as lows dip into the upper 20s to near 30º or so.

Flirting with freezing…for a low. (Pivotal Weather)

Partly cloudy skies continue into the early hours of Sunday as we continue to watch that system slink off to the south of us. Southerly flow should give a good boost to those temperatures though, as they surge into the middle 40s. Granted, that’s where we should be for this time of year…but after the cold of this month, that is going to feel like a breath of fresh air!

Moderation: Into Next Week

I have to tell you, I’m enjoying the moderation the models are depicting as we head into the last week of January.

The upper air pattern looks to take more of a split approach as we head into Monday, that will keep the storm track to the north and the south: keeping us dry. Highs are back in the middle 40s for Monday afternoon. That trend continues into the mid week, with plenty of sunshine allowing highs to perhaps make it up into the lower 50s!

Our next system doesn’t look to make an appearance until we head into the last couple of days of the week, but with the warm air in place, we aren’t expecting more than some showers working into the area.

In fact, milder than normal air may stick around for a bit as we enter the back third of meteorological winter.

Six to ten day outlooks issued by the Climate Prediction Center indicate a slight favorability for above normal temperatures. (Pivotal Weather)

That’s it for me for now! You can always keep up with the latest on all of our social media platforms. Have a tremendous day and a great weekend!
