Sunny, Hazy, Hot: Thanks, Canada!
Today, WABBLES is experiencing a unique weather phenomenon. Not that we haven’t grown half-way accustomed to it here recently… Wildfire smoke from Canada has made its way down, creating a hazy atmosphere. It’ll be very hot and muggy otherwise, with highs near 90˚ this afternoon.
Imagine yourself as a character from “The Hangover” looking at the smoky sky and saying, “What happens in Canada doesn’t stay in Canada!”
Summer Vibes in Full Swing
Starting tomorrow and lasting through the Fourth of July, Bowling Green will be fully immersed in a summer-like feel. It’s time to bring out the beach balls, fire up the grill, and rock those shades like you’re in a classic ’90s summer movie. Cue the Will Smith song, “Summertime,” and let the good vibes roll.
As the summer-like conditions intensify, heat advisories will be in place both Thursday and Friday. With possible triple-digit heat indices, it’s crucial to take precautions and stay cool. Remember, extreme heat is no joke. It’s the leading cause of weather-related illness and deaths. If you’re going to be spending extended periods of time outdoors, stay hydrated and regularly reapply that sunscreen.
Stormy Showdown: Brace for Impact
The upper-level pattern change will bring some excitement a well beginning Thursday, and lasting through the weekend. Mesoscale Convective Systems, or MCS, will make their entrance, resulting in chances for strong and severe storms impacting the region. Below is a graphic from our local NWS office, highlighting the severe risk both Thursday & Friday:
Timing of the Thursday round looks to take place during the morning. Damaging wind and large hail will be our primary concerns with this. The latest HRRR is provided, valid from 3am through 12pm Thursday:
In summary, WABBLES can expect sunny, hazy, hot conditions today due to wildfire smoke from Canada. The summer-like feel will dominate from Thursday through the Fourth of July, bringing the need for heat precautions. Stay cool, stay safe.
Additionally, be prepared for stormy showdowns as Mesoscale Convective Systems impact the region. So, get ready to embrace the hazy heat, celebrate the summer vibes, and keep an eye on the stormy excitement ahead. As always, stay up to date with the latest here —> @wxornotBG
