Today – Partly Sunny, Iso’d Storms – High 84 / Tonight – Mostly Clear – Low 62

Southwest flow will keep a damp airmass in place, however, an upper ridge should keep conditions relatively calm for the vast majority of south central Kentucky.  With that being said, a stray storm or two can’t be ruled out with the parameters we have in place.

Overnight, our atmosphere should be peaceful, with clear skies giving us great conditions to enjoy all the High School football games.  The 500mb vorticity model below is valid for 1pm this afternoon, and illustrates the ridge in place, which should prevent anything outside of isolated showers and storms today:

Sat – Partly Sunny, Scat’d Showers & Storms – High 82 / Sat Night – Showers & Storms Likely – Low 60

7am 67 {} 10am 76 {} 1pm 80 {} 4pm 82

cold front will approach from our west, firing off scattered showers and convection ahead of it.  A few storms could become strong, perhaps even severe, producing frequent lightning, potent winds and small hail.  Those who miss out on the action should enjoy partly sunny skies.  On Saturday night, the cold front will begin to advance over the region, bringing with it likely chances at precipitation, along with a MAJOR cool down.  A few thunderstorms could develop overnight as well.

Sun – Scat’d Showers & Storms – High 67 / Sun Night – Iso’d Showers – Low 46

7am 61 {} 10am 64 {} 1pm 65 {} 4pm 67

The cold front is expected to pass to our east as we get into our Sunday, keeping rain showers in the forecast.  Activity should not be as widespread as we get into Sunday afternoon and night, with only isolated areas of precip able to extend their longevity through this time.  We’ll also experience the coldest temperatures we have had around here for quite some time, as highs will be limited to the mid – upper 60s Sunday afternoon.  Total rainfall amounts from this event could top 2+”, as displayed by the latest QPF model below:
