Cold Start to the Day with Snow Chances this Weekend.

Good Morning WABBLES! The weekend is almost here, but first, we have to deal with some rather cold temps to wake up to.

Current look at the Kentucky Mesonet show temps in the high 20s to low 30s across the central portion of the state. Not to worry though as temps will rise throughout the morning and early afternoon to reach a high in the low to mid 50s across the state.

State Wide Temps (Kentucky Mesonet)

We should have sunny skies this morning with on and off clouds until we have a cold front bringing some rain/clouds later on this evening into the early hours of the overnight. This rain will start out a bit scattered but become much more widespread/organized as the cold front advances eastward.

Turning our attention to Friday, it will be pretty uneventful for the first part of the day until late afternoon when we can see snow showers start to develop and work their way through the area. I will talk more about this in a second. Highs for tomorrow will be in the high 30s/low 40s with it being mostly sunny in the morning.

High Temps for Tomorrow (Pivotalweather.com)

The main story for tomorrow will be the snow showers in the evening into the overnight. These will be very widespread but scattered which means not everyone will being seeing snowfall. The ingredients are also there for the potential of snow squalls, bursts of snow with rather intense snowfall rates. These will be even more scattered but will still be likely for some.

Temps at the start of the showers will be above freezing and it will take some time for temps to come below freezing which could limit the snow accumulations for some. However, those caught under these more intense bands of snow will likely see accumulating snowfall regardless if the temps are below freezing at the surface yet thanks to the heavy snowfall rates. On that note, widespread dusting to an inch is certainly on the table with locally higher amounts for those caught under snow squalls.

It is very important to note that accumulations will most likely vary quite a bit, even across rather small distances. It is almost impossible to predict exactly who will see what, it is just the luck of the winter weather lottery.

Waking up Saturday the snow showers could still be ongoing, but will likely starting to diminish at this point. Clouds will stick around for the day and temperatures will reach a high in the mid 30s.
