Good Wednesday morning folks, and welcome to wxornotBG! After a sunny and pleasant start to the week, we finally will see a change of pace in the forecast. We can expect increasing clouds today ahead of the next rain chances.
Clouds Moving In
Clouds will be moving in today as the high pressure that has been over us finally propagates off to the east. A potent low pressure system that is bringing another round of storm chances to folks in the ArkLaTex region will even bring rain to our neck of the woods later on today and tomorrow.
This low pressure system will begin to push clouds over our area during the late morning and afternoon hours. Along with the clouds, some gusty winds ahead of the rain are also possible. Expect wind gusts up to 20 mph, mostly from the southeast. Temperatures will top out around 72ºF.
GOES satellite imagery show the clouds to our west that will make their way towards the Ohio Valley today. Goodbye sunshine 😢.
Rain showers look to make their appearance some time this evening. The HRRR model guidance suggests we’ll begin seeing some showers around 8 pm and continuing into the overnight hours. Up to half an inch of rain is possible, but shouldn’t cause much impacts considering we’ve been dry for a few days and these showers won’t be heavy.
Rain Continues for Thursday
Rain showers will continue from the overnight hours into the daytime hours on Thursday. A dreary, windy, and soggy day will be in store for us tomorrow, so it won’t be the best idea to go outside. Temperatures will still reach near 68ºF, but winds will be howling up to 30 mph gusts.
Rain showers and maybe even a few weaker thunderstorms will continue throughout the day tomorrow. Those gusty winds will be in response to the center of the potent low pressure system going right over WABBLES.
The Storm Prediction Center has the eastern half of WABBLES under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather tomorrow. While the threat for severe weather is low, we definitely could see some thunderstorms tomorrow before the center of the low moves over us. Just something to keep an eye on.
Rain showers will eventually move east after midnight tomorrow night. Winds will continue to gust up to 20 mph through the evening hours. After the rain showers move out, we will have quiet weather for the overnight hours into Friday.
Quiet weather will return for Friday, but it won’t last long. Friday will be the day that we are in-between two low pressure systems. We can expect some partly sunny skies, with temperatures near 70ºF.
We remain quiet until after midnight, when the next system looms closer. Another low pressure system looks to propagate across Kentucky on Saturday, bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms to WABBLES.
That wraps up today’s forecast. Hope you have a great Wednesday! Make sure to look for the Afternoon Video Update on Facebook and the Afternoon Weather Story on Twitter, only at @wxornotBG.
