Howdy folks, and welcome back to another wxornotBG blog update. We had quite the gully-washer yesterday, with the Mesonet station at the WKU Farm receiving 3.5 inches of rain! Luckily for us, sunny skies return to finish off the week.
High Pressure Settles In
After a rollercoaster start to the week, much more calm weather returns to the area. High pressure is moving in, which will bring with it sunny skies and calm winds.
Today is shaping up to be a nice day as afternoon high temperatures are only expected to be in the low 80s. Winds will be out of the northwest, mainly under 10 mph. Take advantage of the nice weather and get some outdoor chores done, walk the dogs, or wash your car.
Now that the kids are back in school, autumn is just around the corner, which also means chilly nights are coming. We’ll get a little taste of that this week as well as overnight temperatures drop to around 56ºF.
Quiet Conditions Continue for Thursday
No change to the forecast for Thursday as the high pressure will be sticking around over the Ohio Valley.
It’ll be another pleasant day outside as afternoon high temperatures will only reach the low 80s once again. Winds will be calmer tomorrow, as they will be light and variable.
Expect another fall-like night with temperatures around 58ºF. Skies should remain clear overnight, perfect for stargazing and a bonfire!
Is the forecast starting to sound like a broken record yet? Sunny skies will once again stick around to finish off the work-week. Afternoon temperatures around 89ºF as the high will continue to sit over Kentucky.
You may want a very light jacket if going out late on Friday night. Temperatures will be around 75ºF at 7 pm, but around 67ºF by midnight. Lows will bottom out around 63ºF under clear skies.
Early Labor Day Outlook
We will be keeping eyes on the weather models for Labor Day.
The GFS currently hints at some afternoon pop up showers, but it’s only one model at this time. Many changes to the forecast can take place between now and then, so don’t necessarily bet on rain showers for Labor Day…wait until we get closer to Monday.
Otherwise, temperatures look to be in the upper 80s, around 88ºF. We will continue to monitor and analyze the new model runs and keep y’all updated!
That wraps up today’s forecast. Hope you have a great Wednesday and rest of the week! Make sure to look for the Afternoon Video Update on Facebook and the Afternoon Weather Story on Twitter, only at @wxornotBG.
