Bitterly Cold Today
Good morning, everybody! Make sure to grab your heavy coat before walking out the door today because it’s gonna be another cold one.
Thanks to a high pressure system to our north continuing to move northeast, winds will shift to the northeast, allowing temperatures to make it into the low 30’s for today. Don’t let these mostly sunny skies fool you; it’s still going to be very cold!
Today’s High Temps via Pivotal Weather
For tonight, overnight lows will drop into the upper teens under partly cloudy skies.
Slight “Warm-up” Friday and Saturday
Low pressure in the Great Lakes will allow winds to shift out of the south. This breeze will allow a moderation in temperatures, as highs will be in the mid 30’s across the area.
Friday High Temps via Pivotal Weather
As Friday continues, a clipper system will dive southeast through the Midwest region. By the evening hours, there is a chance for some light snow in the Bluegrass counties, but the lower levels will remain very dry; so, no accumulation is expected.
WPC Short Range Forecast valid Friday
Friday night, the aforementioned clipper will move through Indiana, bringing a cold front along with it. The front looks to move through the Ohio Valley on Saturday. Following the frontal passage, temperatures will plummet; earlier in the day, highs will be in the mid 30’s. However, after the front passes, overnight lows will be in the mid-teens with Sunday morning highs only recovering into the mid 20’s.
Cold New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
The main story for New Years is the incredible cold. Single digit lows will be possible Sunday and Monday mornings, so bundle up!
